«Free software will wipe out proprietary software»
It’s the thing to think about: «free software will wipe out proprietary software». There in the interview were some neat analogies drawn with free programmers and lawyers in order to explain common prejudice about free software and stuff. Just listen to the interview the link to which can be found in the article on the issue. There is definitely something to think about and to expect for.

Восточно-азиатская философия Microsoft
1998:
«Although about 3 million computers get sold every year in China, but people don’t pay for the software,» he [Bill Gates] said. «Someday they will, though. As long as they are going to steal it, we want them to steal ours. They’ll get sort of addicted, and then we’ll somehow figure out how to collect sometime in the next decade.» (читать целиком)
И это работает не только в Китае…
2001:
«Gates argued at the time that while it was terrible that people in China pirated so much software, if they were going to pirate anybody’s software he’d certainly prefer it be Microsoft’s.»
2007:
«Today Gates openly concedes that tolerating piracy turned out to be Microsoft’s best long-term strategy. »
«»It’s easier for our software to compete with Linux when there’s piracy than when there’s not.»
